Deaf Client uses wrong or inappropriate sign
You're booked by Action on Hearing Loss to interpret for a Deaf client in their workplace. During a work meeting the client uses the sign for RNID rather than Action on Hearing Loss. Or uses an inappropriate or wrong sign to reflect Action on Hearing Loss.
- Should the interpreter voice the inappropriate phrase?
- Should the interpreter voice Action on Hearing Loss because that’s what the deaf person meant?
- Should the interpreter inform the deaf person of the recognised sign.
- Regardless as to what the deaf person signed should the interpreter check with the deaf person they meant Action on Hearing Loss?
- What other options are there?
