Lip read - an interpreter isn't required

Dilemma:

An interpreter is with a deaf person at an appointment with their Doctor. The Doctor is asking some complex questions as the deaf person appears to have the symptoms of a mental illness.

The deaf person answers ‘yes’ to every question asked. Eventually the Doctor asks, "Can you lip read me?", and the deaf person answers "yes".

The Doctor turns to the interpreter, and tells them that the deaf person can understand him without an interpreter, so they can go.

What do should the interpreter do?
