Working with an advocate

An interpreter is on a legal assignment where they are supporting a Deaf person alongside an advocate.  Usually this is really successful. In this case the interpreter believes there is a problem. The advocate is not supporting the Deaf person as the interpreter thinks they should and the advocate has a very different view of their role.

The dilemma is that if the advocate wasn't there, the interpreter would probably feel freer to work flexibly and offer more support. With the advocate there, the interpreter feels more constrained and feels the Deaf person receives a less appropriate service.
