Does anybody have any ideas of how to practice your time lag?

Hi Maria

Not sure what you mean by "time lag" and the purpose of practicing it.

Depending on the situation etc. my time can vary from 1 - 20+ seconds, all depends how well I have understood the source message. If you give us a bit more info I'm sure someone here can help.

I think a really good way to look at time lag is,following James' point about understanding the source message, is to have a go with messages just in one language first of all. If your first language is English, and you are hearing, Radio 4 is great for this. Listen to any chunk of an information programme - the Today programme or Woman's Hour is good because the chunks tend to be short. Then turn it off and re-tell yourself all you can about the story. You can do the same with magazine articles too if you prefer reading. This exercise is really useful for making sure you have understood properly and is a good warm-up before going on to more 'interpreter' type exercises when you start to work between languages. Clare
